Know your way around a digger and a pump? A Christchurch crew that keeps an essential water network maintained needs a Water Reticulation Operator on contract. Anyone can apply.
The work is outdoors and physical. You run excavators, pumps and small plant next to buried services and live water mains. You do not need reticulation experience. A solid civil or trade background will do, as long as you are reliable, practical, safe and keen to learn. The crew takes pride in good work, safety and looking after each other. If you want to build your technical skills and stay in the water game for the long haul, this is a proper start.

Key Responsibilities
- Run excavators, pumps, small plant and other kit.
- Work around underground services and live water infrastructure.
- Maintain the water network and sort out faults.
- Install, repair and replace water pipes and the components that go with them, keeping drinking-water quality protected.
- Do your share of on-call and after-hours work, and get the job done safely and properly.
Requirements & Eligibility
- Likes hands-on work outdoors and getting stuck in.
- Confident on tools and machinery, comfortable sorting out faults and committed to safe, high-standard work.
- Runs excavators, diggers and other small plant safely and competently.
- Has operated compaction equipment.
- Has operated pumps and water-related machinery.
- Knows water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants and fittings.
- Can install, repair and replace water pipes and associated components.
- Knows the procedures for protecting drinking-water quality during maintenance and repairs.
- Can interpret network plans, drawings and underground service information.
- Class 1 Driver Licence ideally.
- Ideally a positive, can-do attitude.
- Ideally a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Desirable: good practical and problem-solving skills.
- Desirable: able to work well alone and in a team.
- Ideally a strong commitment to health and safety.
- Desirable: good fitness and able to work outdoors.
- Ideally flexible about on-call and after-hours work.
