Support Worker/Life Facilitator

Getting a motivated tetraplegic client to work meetings, family events and appointments, and helping with the personal care and routines that make every day possible. That is the heart of this Life Facilitator role in Tauranga, as part of an established 24/7 team.
The aim is independence, not just care. The client wants to stay active and keep up with personal, professional and family commitments, so trust, consistency and accountability come first.
You will need to prove you are dependable, speak up confidently and work respectfully within a structured team, following routines while using your own initiative. If you are moving with family, plan housing and schooling well ahead.
Key Responsibilities
- Lend a hand with washing, dressing and the other daily living tasks the client needs, and keep the day running to its usual timetable
- Get behind the wheel to take the client to appointments, outings and their job, travelling with them when trips come up
- Back the client at family occasions and in their work life, and be good, upbeat company
- Do things the way the care plan and agreed procedures set out, and change course sensibly when circumstances shift
- Keep a professional line with the client, stay courteous, and brief the round-the-clock team on anything that matters
- Think on your feet to sort out the small practical snags of ordinary life
- Cover the roster across days, afternoons, evenings and nights, sleepovers included when asked
- Show up for training built for this role, be someone the client can count on every shift, and help keep the home safe, warm and respectful
Requirements & Eligibility
- Previous disability support, healthcare, personal care or community support experience preferred
- Minimum NZQA Health and Wellbeing Level 3 or willingness to work towards the qualification
- Valid driver's licence is essential
- Shows up and behaves professionally, and can be trusted to be honest
- Talks easily with people and brings a cheerful, engaging manner
- Sensible, with sound judgement, and keeps a cool head when plans change
- Owns their actions, rolls up their sleeves and copes well with shifting rosters and support needs
- Fits into a 24/7 team and carries out care plans, routines and instructions to the letter
- Free to work day, afternoon and evening shifts as well as overnight sleepovers
- Free for at least two weekend shifts each month
- Can do approximately 35 hours per week, spread over approximately 2–4 rostered shifts per week
- Open to training that builds up your support skills
- Committed to respecting the client's independence, privacy and priorities
