Registered Midwife

Pregnancy check-ups, long nights in the birth suite and those first days at home with a newborn. A private maternity service in Hobart, Tasmania wants experienced Registered Midwives who will be treated as a core part of the care team.

You will work next to experienced health professionals, with structured clinical support, mentoring and professional development to grow your skills in maternity and newborn care. The service wants midwives whose qualifications and clinical background get proper recognition.

Sponsorship is open to eligible onshore applicants. South African midwives already in Australia should line up certified copies of qualifications and registration records for the AHPRA process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Give midwifery care that is safe, respectful and grounded in evidence, across the antenatal, labour and postnatal stages
  • Stay with women through labour and birth, honouring their wishes and care plans
  • Check and monitor the health of mothers and babies, picking up clinical concerns and escalating them when needed
  • Offer education and emotional support to women and families, help with newborn care and support breastfeeding and early parenting
  • Keep clinical notes and patient records accurate
  • Work closely with obstetric, nursing, neonatal and allied health colleagues
  • Take part in clinical education and ongoing professional development, and help improve quality in a positive maternity unit
  • Guide student and graduate midwives where it fits

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife with AHPRA, plus a recognised Midwifery qualification
  • Proven experience giving maternity care
  • A strong commitment to evidence-based, woman-centred practice
  • Excellent communication and people skills, and able to work well in a multidisciplinary team
  • Committed to keeping professional knowledge and clinical competencies up to date
  • Birth suite, antenatal, postnatal or special care nursery experience is highly regarded
  • Available for permanent full-time, part-time or casual hours
  • Able to meet Australian professional registration and employment requirements; eligible onshore applicants requiring visa sponsorship will be considered
