Disability Support Worker

Trust, routine and patience matter most in this job. A young participant living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Geraldton, in the Gascoyne & Midwest region of Western Australia, needs a steady Disability Support Worker to help them grow their everyday living skills, find their voice and become more independent.

You would keep things safe, respectful and encouraging so the young person can develop and stay well. The family wants an experienced, verified carer who works in a person-centred way. Shifts are flexible across the day and after school.

Eligible international applicants with relevant experience, good communication and a real commitment to disability support have sponsorship available to them. If a police certificate is requested, a SAPS clearance can take time, so start early.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be the one-on-one support person, shaping each shift around the participant's own needs and routines and building a bond that is steady, respectful and trusting
  • Turn everyday activities into chances to build skills and independence, and back the young person in activities that grow confidence and engagement
  • Help with communication challenges plus any sensory or behavioural needs
  • Where required, use positive support methods and suitable redirection
  • Work from the Behaviour Support Plans and care instructions, reading and applying them carefully
  • Pick up on shifts in behaviour and respond with patience and professionalism
  • Stay in clear touch with family, carers and the rest of the support network
  • Keep shift notes, reports and any required records accurate

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in disability support or a comparable care role
  • A record of supporting people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including participants who need help with communication and behaviour management
  • Confident applying support strategies and care plans that are already in place
  • Strong English skills, so you can talk clearly in professional settings
  • Turns up consistently and keeps the participant's support steady
  • Patient, understanding and caring towards people with disability
  • Can work alone yet still be a positive member of a support team
  • Relevant qualifications or practical disability support experience preferred
  • Verified applicants with the required experience and skills may be offered sponsorship
