A hotel bar and restaurant in Queenstown, New Zealand, needs two Commis Chefs. These are permanent roles at 30 hours a week.
The kitchen cooks hearty, rustic food. You will be on breakfast and conference food, plating dishes properly and cooking for guests who need dairy-free or gluten-free food. HACCP and hygiene matter here, and so does keeping waste down. Late nights, weekends and public holidays are part of the deal.
You must bring experience in a similar position and on an à la carte menu. You also need an NZQCF Diploma, or at least three years of relevant experience to cover it. A safe food handling certificate counts in your favour. The employer can potentially offer visa sponsorship for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
- Get breakfast, conference food and other dishes cooked, prepared and presented
- Plate up each dish with the right sides
- Keep produce standards high so every guest gets a quality product
- Sort out dietary orders like dairy-free and gluten-free
- Work clean and safe, follow HACCP and use the gear and appliances properly
- Look after stock and equipment and keep waste down
- Pitch in at the sink, with freezing and preserving food, and with training and recruitment when needed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Kitchen time in a similar position, with à la carte menu work
- NZQCF Diploma, or at least three years of relevant experience to cover the formal qualification (a mix may be suitable)
- Ready for late nights, weekends and public holidays
- Happy with a permanent contract of 30 hours a week
- Strong team player who slots into a tight-knit team
- Safe food handling certification counts as an advantage but is not required
