Diagnostics in the morning, a rebuild after lunch, maybe a breakdown call before knock-off: heavy vehicle work here covers the lot. A well-established Australian heavy vehicle business is hiring Heavy Vehicle Mechanics for its team at the Port of Brisbane in Queensland.
The employer wants mechanics who can prove real workshop experience and practical diagnostic skill, and who deliver reliable results. Work includes diagnostics, servicing, repairs, rebuilds and breakdown assistance. You get ongoing manufacturer-focused training, modern workshop facilities and room to grow your technical career.
South African trade certificates are usually assessed again for Australia, so have yours and your work history ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Find faults on heavy commercial vehicles and their systems, and sort out mechanical problems quickly
- Do routine services and preventative maintenance
- Handle repairs, part swaps and rebuilds to the manufacturer's specifications
- Check and inspect each truck once the repair is done
- Fill in job cards and workshop records properly
- Head out to breakdowns at customer sites or elsewhere when needed, and take your turn on the on-call roster
- Keep safety, workmanship and technical accuracy high
- Work alongside other technicians and workshop staff and help train apprentices
- Explain finished work to customers in a professional way
Requirements & Eligibility
- Recognised Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or relevant mechanical qualification
- You have real hands-on experience repairing and maintaining heavy vehicles, and you can prove and verify that trade history
- You diagnose and solve problems well and understand workshop safety and quality procedures
- You are dependable, team-minded and professional with customers
- Current car licence
- HR licence is desirable
- Forklift licence is desirable
- Kenworth or DAF experience is desirable
- Experienced overseas heavy vehicle mechanics are encouraged to apply, and interstate heavy vehicle mechanics are welcome too
- Second to fourth year mechanic apprentices may also be considered
- You are keen to keep training on technical and manufacturer topics, and you can supply documents backing your qualifications and job history
- Eligible overseas candidates can be offered sponsorship
