Local runs around the Auckland region, or line-haul in heavy combination vehicles linking distribution centres, customers and company sites: which one you get depends on your licence and how you suit the role. An established New Zealand distribution business is hiring Class 2 and Class 5 truck drivers.
Trust is the key word. The team needs drivers who handle freight, trucks and customer deliveries professionally and safely, with the licence, hands-on driving skill and attitude to prove it. Expect more than driving: preparing vehicles, unloading and loading freight and supporting the transport operation as a whole. The licence must be a current clean New Zealand one.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle Class 2 or Class 5 heavy vehicles safely and responsibly
- Cover scheduled local deliveries throughout Auckland
- Where required, run line-haul in heavy truck-and-trailer combinations
- Carry products to distribution centres, customers and operational sites, completing collections and deliveries as scheduled
- Secure, load and unload freight with safety in mind
- Prepare freight and trucks for the day's operations
- Check vehicles and safety routinely, and promptly flag operational, freight or vehicle problems
- Complete the documentation that deliveries and transport require
- Comply with company operating, safety and health procedures
- Speak professionally with colleagues and customers, and be a professional face for the business while driving
- Work independently yet contribute to the transport team as a whole, helping with other hands-on transport duties when required
- Cope with shifting routes, workloads and shift requirements
Requirements & Eligibility
- Current clean New Zealand Class 2 or Class 5 driver's licence
- Can operate the heavy vehicle for your licence class safely, and has demonstrated safe driving of heavy vehicles
- Class 5 candidates: must be capable of operating heavy combination vehicles. Class 2 candidates: must be capable of local delivery work
- Earlier heavy vehicle experience: preferred but not essential where the required capability can be demonstrated
- Forklift licence: an advantage but not mandatory
- Safety-first on the road and at work, with a strong commitment to both
- Dependable work ethic and reliable attendance
- Willing to learn, with a positive attitude
- Works in a team or independently, with good communication and people skills
- Happy to take on the physical side of transport work
- Monday to Saturday availability according to the roster, with flexibility for varying shifts including nights
- Can successfully complete pre-employment drug screening
- Can satisfy applicable New Zealand employment and visa requirements
