Stylist

Cuts, colour and a chair that stays booked. A salon in Whanganui Central, New Zealand wants experienced Hair Stylists who can prove what they do with real client work, not just a well-written CV.

Stylists here are pushed to sharpen their craft, grow their own client book and move ahead. Advanced education, business support and routes into creative, education or management roles are all part of the picture, so the skills you already have become the base for your next step.

If you qualified in South Africa, keep certified copies of your hairdressing certificate and letters from past salons ready, along with a few photos of your work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cut, style and colour hair to a professional standard, matching colour work to what each client wants
  • Talk through each client's needs and give sound professional advice
  • Produce reliable, top-quality results across every service and own the standard of your finished work
  • Win over new clients and keep returning ones, building a loyal personal following
  • Keep your appointment book organised and full
  • Give every client a friendly, professional welcome and experience
  • Keep the salon hygienic, well presented and up to standard
  • Work alongside the other stylists and staff, sharing what you know and keeping the team spirit positive
  • Join in training and hair education, and stay current on techniques, products and trends

Requirements & Eligibility

  • At least 3 years of hands-on professional cutting and colouring experience, and able to carry out both services with confidence
  • NZ Level 4 Hairdressing Certificate or an internationally recognised equivalent; experienced candidates may be considered where formal qualifications differ
  • Practical hairdressing skills you can demonstrate, backed by genuine work experience
  • Strong consultation and people skills with clients
  • Able to earn trust and keep client relationships going long term
  • A professional attitude to customer service and your duties at work
  • Works well as part of a team
  • Willing to keep developing your technical and professional skills
  • Able to give genuine evidence of your qualifications and past employment
