Sous Chef

Daytime service, the occasional function and evenings that are mostly your own. A well-established venue in Sutton Forest, in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, needs an experienced Sous Chef for café and event dining.
You will be the Head Chef's right hand, keeping the food excellent, the kitchen efficient and food safety tight. It is a full-time role in a supportive team, suited to a passionate chef who wants to grow.
If your hospitality diploma was earned in South Africa, have a certified copy ready, along with references that confirm your time as a Chef.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and develop menus with the Head Chef, and keep the team culture positive and professional
- Cook and plate meals to the recipe and presentation standard, keeping prep and plating consistent
- Look after café service and function catering, adjusting dishes for dietary needs and guest preferences
- Watch stock levels, help manage inventory and cut food waste with smart kitchen habits
- Keep food quality, hygiene and cleanliness high, following HACCP principles, food safety procedures and workplace health and safety rules
- Work hand in hand with kitchen and front-of-house staff so the kitchen runs efficiently when it gets busy
Requirements & Eligibility
- Diploma of Hospitality or higher qualification
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, including time working under a Head Chef
- Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene and HACCP procedures, plus experience with menu planning and food prep
- Works quickly and well in a fast-paced kitchen while keeping food quality and consistency high
- Excellent teamwork and communication
- Well organised and good at managing time
- Willing to work weekends and extra hours in peak periods
