Restaurant Manager

Bookings, cash-up, a full floor at peak time and a team made up of local and international staff. This permanent, full-time Restaurant Manager job in Christchurch Central, Canterbury, New Zealand needs a leader, not just a shift supervisor.

You will own the performance of a busy front of house, set clear service standards, grow your people and act as the link between management, staff and guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of front-of-house performance and set clear standards for service and operations
  • Lead, coach and grow a mixed team of local and international hospitality staff, tracking performance and giving useful feedback
  • Run opening and closing routines, plus the daily cash-up and cash handling
  • Handle reservations and booking needs, and manage guest flow so service holds up at peak times
  • Help management with staff schedules and rosters
  • Keep Directors and General Management informed
  • Apply workplace policies and procedures the same way every time
  • Spot service problems and act to fix them
  • Build good relationships with guests, encourage them to come back, and back ideas that lift satisfaction and revenue
  • Make sure liquor is served responsibly and in line with the rules
  • Keep the workplace professional and positive, working with management to make operations more efficient and consistent

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in restaurant management or a comparable senior hospitality position
  • A track record running front of house
  • Proven at leading, training and developing hospitality staff
  • Knows how busy, multi-sitting restaurants work
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with a mature, professional approach to managing staff
  • Strong customer service and a knack for building relationships
  • Working knowledge of hospitality service standards and a sound grasp of liquor service and licensing compliance
  • Can keep guest flow moving during busy trading
  • Organised and decisive, staying calm and effective under pressure
  • Willing to learn the venue's products, systems and procedures
  • Flexible for evening and weekend work
  • Able to work a minimum of 30 hours per week across 5 days
  • Genuine hospitality work history that can be verified; you must be able to supply information or documents on your background where required
