Project Engineer

Trade · Brisbane QLD, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

Two weeks on, one week off, on a DIDO/BIBO rotation: that is the rhythm of this permanent Senior Project Engineer role with a growing civil construction team in Brisbane, QLD.

You will run project coordination, give sound technical advice and help deliver complex civil works. Selection weighs your qualifications, engineering background, project exposure and overall fit, so a proven track record matters more than a degree alone.

The package is competitive: base salary, superannuation, project uplift, a work vehicle and a KPI bonus. Engineers from South Africa should check early whether their degree needs a formal skills assessment for any visa they plan to use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of engineering on big civil jobs, helping the Project Manager bring each one home safely, efficiently and on time
  • Check that what gets built matches the signed-off drawings, specs, budgets and project brief
  • Draw up programs, plans and build schedules, keep them current and plan the order of works so the site sticks to the agreed program
  • Be the go-to for engineering advice on site and in the project team, and go through civil, structural and services drawings
  • Pick up technical problems early and follow each query until it is closed out
  • Help choose and bring on subcontractors and suppliers, then keep tabs on what they deliver, what it costs and how well they perform
  • Police quality requirements and see that quality control procedures are applied
  • Help keep costs in check, producing a monthly financial report and a forecast of cost to complete
  • Raise risks, site problems and likely delays before they bite
  • Work side by side with managers, supervisors, subbies, suppliers and other stakeholders, and keep safety front of mind on everything

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Civil Engineering Degree or an equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 7 years' engineering experience within civil infrastructure or construction
  • A track record of playing a real part in delivering major civil projects, and a firm grip on how civil works are built
  • Reads civil, structural and services drawings with confidence
  • Has dealt with technical queries and sorted out engineering problems
  • Knows how to plan, program and sequence construction
  • Has looked after budgets for subcontractors and suppliers
  • Familiar with quality assurance and quality control systems
  • Commercially sharp, with good project management sense, clear communication and the ability to handle stakeholders
  • Shows real commitment to health and safety at work, and can work a 2/1 DIDO/BIBO roster
  • Relevant Australian work rights or eligibility for employer sponsorship, which is on offer for candidates with suitable qualifications and experience
