Production Manager

Seawater comes in at one end, finished salt lands on the stockpile at the other, and as Production Manager everything in between is yours. This specialist solar salt business in Queensland, Australia already turns out over 200,000 tonnes annually and is expanding.

The owners need a practical, money-aware leader to steer the next phase. You will head up a crew of 10+ employees and be answerable for output efficiency, salt quality, stock levels and running costs. Seasons and weather set the pace, so sound technical know-how and clear thinking when conditions shift are essential.

You will live on the site in regional Queensland, so plan the move with care, especially if a partner or children are coming with you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee every stage of the salt works, from pumping and evaporation through crystallisation, harvesting and washing to the final stockpile
  • Plan output around seasonal patterns and the forecast, and keep weather-related risks under control
  • Head up a crew of 10+ employees in production and mobile plant, broadening their skills through cross-training and multi-skilling
  • Follow output volumes, stock on hand and the cost of each tonne, and answer commercially for efficiency and running costs
  • Confirm that finished salt is within its set quality specs
  • Clear production bottlenecks with workable fixes
  • Act as the go-to person when technical or process trouble escalates
  • Support capital works and plant and field infrastructure upgrades, and chase gains in efficiency, reliability and resilience
  • Team up with outside technical consultants and internal specialists to improve results
  • Keep output and stockpile records precise, and play your part in growing the site over the long term

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrated solar salt production experience is highly desirable; people who have done this work abroad are encouraged to apply as well (international solar salt production experience)
  • In-depth technical understanding of evaporation and crystallisation
  • Chemical engineering, chemistry or similar technical qualifications may be considered where relevant production experience is shown
  • Proven record running production, processing or industrial operations
  • Background in managing and developing multi-skilled frontline teams
  • Sound grip on production costs, stock control and operational KPIs
  • Can make good calls when weather changes the conditions
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting and problem-solving, backed by demonstrated commercial awareness and operational accountability
  • Strong leader and communicator who manages people well, works independently and cooperates with technical support teams
  • Prepared to move to regional Queensland and live on the site, and ready to commit long term to a growing Australian operation
