Key Responsibilities
- Find faults in engines, transmissions, steering and other mechanical systems, using computerised diagnostic equipment where needed
- Inspect parts for wear, damage and faults
- Strip out and dismantle engines, transmissions and other assemblies when the job calls for it
- Repair, swap or rebuild worn or faulty mechanical parts
- Handle routine services and preventative maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, tune-ups and scheduled maintenance
- Work from technical information and manufacturer service specifications so repairs meet the required standards
- Test and adjust repaired parts until they operate correctly
- Inspect vehicles, note what work keeps them roadworthy and check how they perform after servicing and repairs
- Keep the workshop safe, clean and organised to a high standard
- Team up with other workshop staff to get assigned jobs done efficiently
- Turn out reliable work with vehicle safety and customer satisfaction front of mind
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III or higher in Motor Mechanics, Automotive Technology or a related field
- Minimum 3 years of professional automotive experience that is relevant
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical servicing and repair work
- Strong troubleshooting and fault-diagnosis skills on vehicles, with experience using computerised automotive diagnostic systems
- Sound knowledge of engines, steering, transmissions and other mechanical systems
- Able to work from technical manuals and manufacturer specifications
- Strong practical problem-solving, with a high level of attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Works well alone and within a professional workshop team
- Good communication and workplace skills
- Able to provide evidence of relevant qualifications and employment experience
