Mining Engineer

Trade · Brisbane QLD, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr

Your job here is to take the big-picture mine strategy and break it into short-term plans an underground crew can actually execute safely. An established underground operation in Queensland wants a Senior Mining Engineer for its short-term planning team.

You need to know how underground work really runs, and be confident applying engineering judgement to mine design, drill and blast, production planning and the daily problems that come up underground. Production and development both rely on your plans being clear and achievable.

It is a permanent post with an attractive salary and benefits package, professional development and room for long-term career growth. Engineers with hard rock experience in South African mines should have degree certificates and employment records ready to verify.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the short-term underground mine plan from preparation to delivery, turning wider strategy into workable operating plans
  • Design development, production and underground infrastructure, and use engineering know-how to improve sequencing and results
  • Draw up and fine-tune drill and blast designs, and check stope designs against short-term production needs
  • Sit down with operations crews to make sure plans are realistic, and flag risks, constraints and chances to improve
  • Give technical direction to the mining engineering team and mentor engineers, graduates and cadets
  • Line up planning needs across development, stoping, services, ventilation and backfill
  • Help the mine get production-ready and see planned work carried out well
  • Produce accurate, practical designs in mine planning software and push for continuous improvement in planning and design

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field
  • Minimum 6–8 years of mining engineering experience, with strong underground hard rock mining experience that is genuine and verifiable
  • Proven experience in short-term mine planning and shown ability in operational mine design
  • Strong background in drill and blast design, plus solid knowledge of stope design and mine sequencing
  • A good grasp of underground mining methods and how production works
  • A track record of technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers
  • Skilled in Surpac, Vulcan, Datamine, Deswik or similar software
  • Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work well with technical crews as well as operations crews
  • Visa sponsorship is available for candidates with suitable qualifications
