An Alice Springs workshop with a solid name in the Northern Territory needs Motor Mechanics who can fault-find properly and take pride in their work. It is a full-time job and a way to build a career in Australia inside a supportive team.

The focus is on proof. Your qualifications, hands-on skills and work history need to be clearly laid out and verified, so the employer can trust the person behind the application.

A South African trade certificate is a good start, but expect it to be checked and possibly assessed again. Get certified copies and signed reference letters together before you apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Look over each vehicle, judge its mechanical condition and work through faults methodically with the right diagnostic tools and methods before recommending repairs
  • Find the root cause of mechanical problems and choose the right fix
  • Do scheduled services, preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs, including rebuilding or replacing engines, transmissions, suspension parts and other systems
  • Use workshop tools and diagnostic gear accurately and safely
  • Repair to professional quality and safety standards, keeping your work practices accurate throughout
  • Road test or check vehicles after repairs to confirm everything works
  • Give apprentices and junior technicians practical guidance
  • Keep the workshop clean, safe and efficient and work as part of the wider automotive team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Recognised Motor Mechanic trade qualification or an equivalent overseas qualification
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on automotive experience preferred
  • Real, provable experience diagnosing, servicing and repairing vehicles
  • Previous dealership or professional workshop experience is an advantage
  • Can supply evidence of your qualifications and past employment
  • Strong at diagnosis, troubleshooting and solving mechanical problems, with a high standard of detailed workmanship
  • Current driver's licence and able to drive both manual and automatic vehicles
  • Works alone and takes responsibility for finished jobs, while also communicating and cooperating well with the team
  • Professional attitude and serious about safety at work
  • Willing to relocate to the Northern Territory; candidates who need visa sponsorship may be considered, subject to suitability and verification of qualifications and experience
