Maintenance & Reliability Lead
Trade · Perth WA, Australia · Full-Time · $80,000/yr
Breakdowns diagnosed in the morning, a maintenance plan drafted in the afternoon, a contractor briefed before knock-off: the Maintenance & Reliability Lead at this expanding Perth WA manufacturer moves between the tools and the planning desk. The employer frames it as an Industrial Maintenance & Reliability Manager post, aimed at a technically strong person ready to own how machines perform, how upkeep is planned, the automation side and steady reliability gains.
There is no polished system to inherit. You will build one, mixing fault-finding on the floor with scheduling, looking after assets, managing contractors and constant improvement. Alongside production crews, equipment makers and specialists, you will raise plant availability, stop the same failures coming back and set up maintenance habits that support growth for years. Trades are usually assessed again for Australia, so get your South African trade papers in order.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the direction for upkeep and reliability across the factory, and answer for uptime, how dependable the plant is and how well maintenance performs
- Bring in planned programs of preventative and predictive work
- Respond when machines stop or develop technical faults, working out what went wrong in hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, mechanical or instrumentation systems
- Get hands-on with electrical and mechanical repairs, but only within your authorised scope and the qualifications you hold
- Fault-find on motors, sensors, PLCs, HMIs, variable-speed drives, instrumentation and automated control gear
- Spot failures that keep coming back, dig into the root cause and put lasting fixes in place
- Build maintenance timetables that fit production demands and the criticality of each asset
- Keep the asset register, work orders, maintenance logs and machine histories correct and current
- Roll out and improve CMMS routines (MEX and any other relevant equipment maintenance system), plus inspection rounds, service intervals and maintenance standards
- Improve the way critical spare parts are identified, kept in stock and controlled
- Bring together outside specialists, suppliers, OEMs' service people and other technical providers when jobs need them
- Assist when equipment is installed, commissioned, upgraded, modified or handed over
- Produce usable procedures, checklists, inspection rounds and technical files, and help operators look after their machines and pick up faults early
- Push for better plant safety, quicker response, more uptime and smoother operations, enforce isolation, lockout/tagout, permit-to-work and other safety rules, and make sure licensed or specialist jobs are done by properly qualified people
