New machines are arriving and more of the line is going automatic. A packaging operation in Wanaka, Otago needs an experienced Machine Operator to keep production moving and help bed the new equipment in.
The job is practical: set machines up, adjust them, catch faults early and keep output consistent. Your know-how will also be used to make the equipment run better, and over time the post can grow into a specialist role in packaging machinery, automation and production optimisation.
Eligible international applicants may be considered for sponsorship, and the employer wants people ready to relocate to Otago for the long haul. If you are moving with family, start planning schooling and housing early.
Key Responsibilities
- Run production and packaging machines safely and efficiently, owning the condition and output of the equipment assigned to you
- Set machines up for each run, handle product changeovers and fine-tune settings
- Watch the machines during production, react to performance problems and spot faults, stoppages or odd behaviour
- Troubleshoot breakdowns using hands-on mechanical knowledge
- Do routine cleaning, lubrication and basic maintenance
- Check product quality and machine operating conditions as you go
- Keep production records and complete the paperwork the job needs
- Follow food safety, quality and health and safety procedures
- Help out with packaging, kegging, warehousing and moving finished goods
- Assist with installing and commissioning new machinery, and with testing and tuning automated equipment
- Find ways to cut stoppages and get more from the machines so production flows reliably
Requirements & Eligibility
- At least 2 years of relevant machine operating or manufacturing experience, with demonstrated experience on production or industrial machinery
- Has worked as a Machine Operator, Production Operator or in a similar role
- Strong practical mechanical knowledge and good at troubleshooting
- Can set machines up and make precise adjustments
- Recognises equipment faults and digs into their causes
- Has done basic mechanical maintenance and looked after equipment
- Puts safety and production quality first, with a careful eye on machines and finished products
- A practical, hands-on approach to production work
- Works on their own and takes ownership of how the machines perform
- Interested in automation, modern machinery and production technology
- Packaging, canning, bottling, food or beverage production experience is advantageous
- Able to provide evidence supporting relevant machinery and production experience
- Willing to relocate to Otago and build a long-term career in New Zealand; eligible international applicants may be considered for sponsorship
