Line Chef

Fresh pasta, pizzettas and seasonal produce will define the menu at a new premium Italian-inspired restaurant in Dunedin, Otago. The team is hiring an experienced Chef de Partie to help set kitchen standards right from the opening.
The employer wants chefs with genuine commercial kitchen experience who own their work. Expect to bring proven technical skill, consistency and organisation, plus the confidence to deliver in a professional service environment.
If an English test is needed for the visa, South Africans should plan for IELTS or PTE.
Key Responsibilities
- Own an allocated section through prep and service, organising mise en place so it is fully ready every day
- Cook and send dishes to set recipes and presentation standards, keeping quality, portions, plating and timing consistent
- Help make fresh pasta and traditional dough
- Assist with stock control, ordering, food costing and inventory
- Meet New Zealand food safety and hygiene requirements and keep a clean, organised, efficient station
- Work with the Head Chef, Sous Chef and the rest of the kitchen
- Help build a disciplined, professional kitchen, contributing to team development and strong kitchen habits from the start
Requirements & Eligibility
- A minimum of 3–5 years' relevant professional experience as a chef, proven in commercial kitchens
- Has worked busy or high-volume services
- Strongly preferred: Italian cuisine experience
- Can run a kitchen section independently
- Solid knowledge of food prep, hygiene and food safety, and understands stock control and commercial kitchen systems
- A relevant cookery qualification such as NZ Level 4, or equivalent, is preferred
- Well organised, detail-focused and consistent under pressure
- Willing to work evenings and weekends in a six-day operation
- Applicants must hold legal work rights in New Zealand or meet Accredited Employer Work Visa requirements
- Overseas candidates whose qualifications and experience are suitable may be eligible for sponsorship
