Head Chef

Residents in this Camberwell care community sit down to meals that you plan, cook and present. As Head Chef you run the kitchen, shape menus around the seasons and what residents enjoy, and make every plate count for people who eat there each day.

The role is permanent and full-time in Melbourne, Victoria. You get creative room on the menu, a dedicated team to lead, a supportive workplace and real scope to build your career. Sponsorship is on offer for eligible candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the kitchen team in a confident, upbeat and professional way, and coach, train and back each team member
  • Cook tasty, nourishing and balanced food, catering for every resident's individual diet and nutrition needs
  • Plan menus around seasonal produce and what residents like to eat
  • Plate every meal to a reliably high standard so mealtimes feel like an occasion residents look forward to
  • Keep food safety and kitchen cleanliness at an excellent level
  • Check that every kitchen practice lines up with the relevant compliance rules
  • Handle food orders and deal with suppliers
  • Track stock on hand and cut out avoidable waste
  • Look after the kitchen budget and spending
  • Build a kitchen where people feel safe, respected and part of a team

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A recognised Commercial Cookery qualification, with a Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent preferred
  • Time spent as a Head Chef or in another senior culinary leadership post
  • A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
  • Solid knowledge of food safety and hygiene practice
  • A track record of building menus and handling dietary requirements
  • Leads and manages people very well, and communicates and plans clearly
  • Has managed stock and kitchen costs before
  • Loves turning out exceptional food and service, and treats residents with care and respect
  • Able to pass a medical assessment and background checks
  • Able to meet the Police Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check requirements
  • Sponsorship is open to eligible applicants
