Fire Technician / Carpenter

If you know your way around a fire-rated door set and can seal a service penetration properly, read on. A passive fire protection company that has been operating in Western Australia for some time is hiring a Fire Technician / Carpenter in Perth WA. They want a tradesperson with proven practical ability and a real, checkable employment record.

Expect a blend of servicing, upkeep and new-build work at different sites. The employer wants someone who can point to jobs they have actually done, who knows installations must comply, and who takes ownership of getting results right and to a high standard. Your site experience, your trade history and how you meet professional and compliance expectations will decide how well you do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hang new fire-rated doors and door sets, swap out old ones, and repair or adjust fire doors already in place
  • Handle fire door maintenance plus compliance-related jobs
  • Fit passive fire penetration protection systems, and do fire stopping and penetration sealing
  • Rectify defects, including any carpentry they call for
  • Attend scheduled servicing and maintenance
  • Support new building and installation projects
  • Read plans, drawings, specs and installation guides, working to Australian Standards and what each manufacturer requires
  • Inspect each completed job for quality and compliance, and log the work done along with site details
  • Apply safe work procedures at all times
  • Talk clearly and professionally with clients, supervisors and project personnel
  • Work productively on commercial, residential and industrial jobs

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Demonstrable hands-on work in carpentry, fire protection, fire doors or an allied trade
  • Genuine proof of your earlier employment and trade experience
  • Solid practical ability and a sharp eye for detail
  • Grasps what quality and compliance demand
  • Can work out what is wrong and apply a practical solution
  • Comfortable interpreting plans, specifications and technical instructions
  • Can work on your own or as one of a professional team
  • Responsible and dependable at work, with professional communication and the skills to deal with clients face to face
  • Holds a current Australian driver's licence, or can obtain one where applicable
  • Holds a Construction White Card
  • Highly regarded: a relevant carpentry or trade qualification, and previous passive fire protection or fire door experience
  • Meets the sponsorship and visa eligibility requirements that apply
