The aim is a good fit: experienced mechanics placed in workshops where their papers, technical history and practical skill suit the work. Mechanics holding a South African trade certificate should expect a skills assessment for Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, service and fix trucks and other heavy vehicles
- Track down engine and mechanical faults step by step, using proper diagnostic methods and tools
- Overhaul and look after diesel engines and heavy-vehicle parts
- Check and repair brakes and suspension, and service trailers and their fittings
- Pick out worn, broken or failing parts and say what repair is needed
- Finish every job to a professional standard, writing up job cards and service records accurately
- Do scheduled maintenance that keeps vehicles off the hoist and on the road
- Follow workshop safety rules and what the manufacturer specifies
- Work well alongside the other mechanics and workshop staff
Requirements & Eligibility
- A relevant trade qualification in Diesel, Heavy Vehicle or Truck Mechanics
- Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience
- Real hands-on time on trucks or diesel-powered vehicles, covering diesel engines, trailers, suspension and brakes
- Good at diagnosing and finding faults, then fixing them accurately
- Knows how heavy vehicle mechanical systems work in practice
- Can show evidence of relevant qualifications and work history
- Careful, quality-minded workmanship
- Works safely and efficiently in a professional workshop
- Australian mechanical experience is highly regarded; onshore applicants with valid work rights are welcome to apply
