Diesel Motor Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

  • Track down and fix faults on diesel engines and heavy vehicles, investigating mechanical, hydraulic and electrical problems with diagnostic tools and software
  • Service, repair and maintain diesel-powered systems, including scheduled services and preventative maintenance programs
  • Look over heavy vehicles to work out what maintenance or repairs they need
  • Get repairs done quickly and to a professional standard
  • Keep job sheets, service records and maintenance paperwork up to date and correct
  • Work by the workshop rules and the health and safety requirements that apply, both in the workshop and outdoors
  • Keep your bay clean, tidy and safe
  • Talk to colleagues clearly about repairs, faults and what maintenance is needed

Requirements & Eligibility

  • A minimum of 2 years servicing and repairing heavy vehicles hands-on
  • A relevant mechanical qualification and/or industry experience you can demonstrate
  • Full Class 1 driver's licence or equivalent; a Class 4 driver's licence is advantageous
  • Strong practical understanding of diesel engines and heavy vehicle systems
  • Proven skill at finding faults in mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, using diagnostic equipment and software
  • Strong at communicating and solving problems
  • Safety-minded, reliable and professional on the job
  • Can fill in service paperwork and keep accurate records
  • Physically able to carry out manual mechanical work
  • Willing to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment
  • Can pass a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) check
  • Can supply identity, employment and qualification documents that are genuine and verifiable
  • Already holds New Zealand work rights, or is eligible for employer-sponsored work authorisation
