Crusher Fitter / Boilermaker

Crushers, screens and processing plant for quarries and mines, both tracked mobile units and fixed installations, need someone to keep them running. This Crusher Fitter / Boilermaker job is about exactly that: maintenance, fault-finding, repairs and service work out in the field.
Your week moves between the workshop and client sites in city, country and remote areas. The employer specialises in equipment services and wants a tradesperson strong on mechanical and hydraulic work, whose qualifications and job history can be checked.
Trades are usually assessed again for Australia, so keep your South African trade certificate close.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep tracked and static crushing and processing plant in top shape through servicing, mechanical repair work and planned maintenance
- Pin down what is wrong with a machine and decide how it should be fixed
- Trace hydraulic problems with the help of schematics, manuals and tech data, testing pressure and flow as you go
- Fault-find 12V and 24V electrical controls, working from the wiring diagrams and checking voltage and continuity
- Inspect plant and get it ready before it is handed over, sticking to OEM specifications and signed-off procedures
- Head out to clients in city, country and remote locations to service their plant and give technical support, with regional travel when it comes up
- Note the state of each machine and flag remedial work it needs
- Write up service and condition reports, logging every inspection, repair, setting and test result
- Photograph your finished maintenance and repair work as evidence
- Explain plant problems and completed work to customers face to face
- Keep safety front of mind in the workshop and on site
Requirements & Eligibility
- Sponsorship available for suitable candidates who meet the required criteria
- Relevant trade qualification in Fitting, Boilermaking or a comparable mechanical trade
- At least 2 years of post-training industry experience
- Time spent working on fixed plant at a quarry or mine
- Practical background with crushers and processing machinery
- Proven mechanical maintenance and repair work
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and how to diagnose them
- Comfortable reading hydraulic drawings as well as electrical schematics
- Can carry out simple electrical tests on 12V and 24V systems
- Your past trade roles and experience must be provable and verifiable
- Full unrestricted C Class Driver’s Licence
- HR Licence is desirable
- Forklift Licence is desirable
- Physically up to hands-on manual and field work
- Happy to work in metro, regional and remote spots
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment medical and Drug and Alcohol screening
- A practical mechanical problem-solver who takes initiative, communicates well and treats customers and site crews professionally
