Lunch is the main event at this hospitality operation in Cervantes, Northam & Wheatbelt WA, so most evenings are your own. Weekends and public holidays are part of the deal, though, and the odd function may need extra hours. The kitchen wants a capable Cook with proven commercial experience, practical skill and a dependable work habit.
Expect to cover the whole kitchen: prepping ingredients, cooking, plating, handling stock and keeping the space clean and efficient. You will work with an experienced culinary team that cares about consistency, teamwork and detail. If you have cooked in a busy South African kitchen, have references from those employers ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Get ingredients and food items ready for each day in the kitchen
- Cook menu dishes on commercial kitchen equipment, timing prep and cooking so service runs efficiently
- Keep food quality and presentation consistent, helping plate finished dishes
- Help prepare group meals when needed
- Work alongside the Head Chef and the rest of the kitchen staff, and back the team when service gets busy and pressured
- Track kitchen stock and help with inventory control, receiving, labelling, storing and rotating food correctly
- Take practical steps to cut food waste
- Keep the kitchen orderly, hygienic and well presented, and follow food safety and hygiene rules
- Carry out the required opening and closing procedures
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial cooking experience
- Practical knowledge of food prep and cooking techniques
- Able to prove genuine, verifiable work experience
- At ease in a fast-paced commercial kitchen, keeping quality and speed up under pressure
- Well organised and attentive to detail
- Reliable and consistent with workplace duties, positive and professional
- Works well in a team
- Willing to work weekends and public holidays, and available for occasional functions when required
- Able to satisfy relevant sponsorship requirements where they apply
