Climbing Arborist

Two Climbing Arborists are needed in Whakatane for a tree care business that is well established in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. Jobs range across residential, rural and commercial properties, from reductions and everyday tree care to technical removals and larger-scale projects.
The aim is a good fit between people and work, so technical ability, hands-on experience and qualifications are all part of how candidates are chosen. Expect a team that values safe planning, quality workmanship and the preservation of established vegetation and trees wherever practical. Have copies of your arboriculture certificates and proof of past climbing work ready.
Key Responsibilities
- Do professional climbing arborist work on residential, rural and commercial properties, from smaller jobs to large-scale commercial tree care
- Handle pruning, reductions and technical tree removals
- Pick the right rigging, climbing and dismantling approach for every site and tree
- Keep both ground-based and aerial operations safe
- Use specialist arb machinery and equipment when required
- Assess each site and follow the safety procedures and planned work
- Protect buildings, infrastructure, retained vegetation and other assets on site, and keep trees wherever reasonably possible
- Look after your PPE, tools, machinery and climbing equipment to a professional standard
- Work closely with other arborists and the ground team so jobs get done efficiently
- Join paid training and keep developing your skills
- Respond to callout and emergency tree work when required, with consistent standards of quality, reliability and safety
Requirements & Eligibility
- Level 3 or Level 4 Arboriculture qualification, or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Proven background as a climbing arborist
- Competent in tree work and aerial climbing
- Practical rigging experience and experience with technical removals
- Can independently manage climbing operations on suitable jobs
- Strong understanding of safe practice in arboricultural work
- Class 1 driver's licence essential
- Class 2 or heavy transport licence advantageous
- Physically capable of tough outdoor tree work
- Professional, honest and reliable; communicates well and works strongly in a team
- Open to further arboricultural training where required
- Overseas candidates are welcome if their relevant qualifications and experience can be verified, and suitable overseas applicants can access sponsorship; all must meet relevant New Zealand work visa and employer requirements
