Opening night is coming for a fresh restaurant in West End, Brisbane, and the owners need a seasoned Chef in the kitchen from day one. Think setting up the line, training the juniors and holding standards steady while a brand-new menu finds its feet.

Pay for this full-time post is $70,000–$80,000 per annum plus superannuation. South African cooks should have certified copies of qualifications and reference letters on hand.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coach junior kitchen workers so they learn the house way of doing things
- Turn out every menu item to the recipe and standard, with taste, plating and portions matching each time
- Keep prep and service systems tight, and direct the kitchen through the rush
- Bring ideas to shape the menu and sharpen recipes
- Hold the kitchen to food safety requirements and keep it hygienic and safe for everyone
- Check how fast stock moves, work out ordering needs, rotate supplies and keep wastage down
- Help control kitchen costs, run things efficiently and stay in touch with both kitchen and floor teams
Requirements & Eligibility
- A relevant cookery qualification is preferred
- At least 3 years working as a professional Chef, shown through hands-on commercial kitchen work
- Sound grasp of how food is prepared and cooked, plus knowledge of food safety and workplace health and safety requirements
- Can juggle competing jobs in the kitchen without letting quality drop when covers are high
- Works well in a team, communicates clearly, and is dependable and committed
- Experience with Mexican cuisine is advantageous
- Able to undertake interstate training when required
- Sponsorship consideration available for applicants who are suitably qualified
