You will play a key part in prep, menu ideas, running the kitchen and keeping food quality and safety high. The business is growing and offers competitive pay, career development and stable long-term work for a motivated cook who loves this style of food.
Chefs with a South African trade certificate should plan for a skills assessment, often through Trades Recognition Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Cook quality meals to recipe and presentation standards, keeping taste, quality and portions consistent
- Help plan menus, develop recipes and update seasonal dishes
- Oversee prep so standards never slip
- Handle stock rotation, inventory and ordering, and keep food waste down through good stock and kitchen management
- Keep the kitchen clean, orderly and efficient
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety rules
- Work alongside the kitchen crew in busy services and help train junior team members
- Watch kitchen equipment and report anything that needs maintenance
- Help improve how the kitchen runs and how happy customers are
- Deliver excellent food and service every shift
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, with strong knowledge of how commercial kitchens run
- Understands food safety, hygiene and HACCP principles
- Excellent organisation and time management
- Works efficiently when things get fast-paced
- Communicates well and works as part of a team
- Positive attitude and a strong work ethic, with a commitment to high standards of food quality and presentation
- Willing to work evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Experience cooking Asian cuisine is highly regarded but not essential
