The kitchen's results will be yours to own. A busy hospitality venue in Millicent, on South Australia's Limestone Coast, wants an accomplished Head Chef who has already led kitchens and can step in and take charge.

Good cooking alone will not be enough. The venue needs real leadership, operational know-how and professional experience. You will protect food standards, grow the kitchen team, rein in costs and strengthen the whole food operation. Leading from the front, handling busy services and keeping standards steady are what will make you succeed.

South African chefs with a trade certificate should plan for a skills assessment for Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day kitchen operation and service, and answer for the overall performance and standards of the kitchen
  • Lead, supervise and grow the chefs and kitchen crew, mentoring and training junior staff
  • Keep food quality, presentation and portions consistent, making sure recipes and prep methods are followed every time
  • Coordinate prep, cooking and service needs
  • Contribute to menu planning, specials and seasonal dishes
  • Watch food, labour and running costs
  • Handle stock ordering, inventory and supplier needs, cutting waste through tight stock control
  • Enforce strict food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards
  • Keep an eye on kitchen flow and make it more efficient, spotting operating problems and putting practical fixes in place
  • Work alongside venue management and the broader hospitality team
  • Keep the kitchen professional, structured and positive
  • Steer the team through high-volume and peak services

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Proven time as a Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior kitchen professional
  • Can lead a commercial kitchen independently, delegating and managing kitchen teams well
  • Strong hands-on cooking and food prep
  • Understands food costing, labour control, stock management and wastage
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements
  • Experience within pubs, hotels, clubs or high-volume hospitality settings is advantageous
  • Keeps quality and consistency steady through busy services, staying calm and effective under pressure
  • Well organised with good time management
  • Professional about leading the team and developing staff, and communicates well with people
  • Ready to take an active, hands-on role in the kitchen, with relevant culinary qualifications and/or substantial industry experience
