Kalgoorlie, in the Western Australian Goldfields, is where this Chef role is based. An established hospitality operation wants an experienced Chef who can prove real commercial kitchen ability and reliability, and who has the nerve for a demanding service environment. Skills and experience will be verified.

You work beside the Head Chef and have a direct hand in food preparation, service standards, kitchen organisation and how the team performs. It is a chance to build Australian hospitality experience and grow your career in a regional setting. Employer sponsorship is available for an eligible candidate, with potential pathways towards permanent residence under applicable arrangements, and the business takes part in the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Help the Head Chef run the kitchen each day, and take charge of kitchen operations when the Head Chef is away
  • Cook, prepare and plate food to the set quality standards, every time
  • Show hands-on competence on a range of sections, including help with grill, pizza, pasta and desserts
  • Get mise en place and prep done before service
  • Set up stations so service runs efficiently
  • Keep portions, presentation and quality consistent all through service
  • Perform well when service is busy and volumes are high, using time and resources efficiently
  • Keep work areas clean, organised and fully prepared
  • Stick to kitchen operating, hygiene and food safety procedures
  • Join the daily kitchen briefing and pass on operational requirements
  • Work as one with chefs, kitchen staff and the wider hospitality team, and direct kitchen staff when required
  • Hold professional standards in conduct, presentation and customer service

Requirements & Eligibility

  • Minimum 4 years of professional Chef experience
  • Demonstrated work in a similar commercial kitchen, with proven hands-on ability across multiple areas of kitchen production
  • Grill, pizza, pasta and dessert experience is highly regarded
  • Recognised culinary qualification from Australia or overseas, or demonstrable equivalent industry experience
  • Strong grasp of commercial food prep and service, with experience in a high-volume restaurant or hospitality setting
  • Can lead or coordinate kitchen staff when required
  • Strong at organising and managing time
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Professional and reliable about workplace responsibilities
  • Works on their own while adding positively to the team
  • Strongly committed to cleanliness, food safety and quality standards
  • Current Food Safety certification is advantageous; current Safe Food Handling certification is advantageous
  • Applicants must satisfy the relevant requirements for employer sponsorship and DAMA nomination
