Chef de Partie

Lunch service is full, a function is booked for the evening and your section has to be ready for both. That is a normal day for this Chef de Partie at a premium venue in Invercargill, at the southern tip of New Zealand.
The kitchen cooks across several dining styles, so you will move between à la carte plates, catering and special events while keeping every dish consistent and well presented. You will be part of a seasoned culinary team and there is genuine room to grow your career in a professional setting.
This is a full-time post. Before applying, gather your cookery certificate and letters from past head chefs that confirm your time on the line.
Key Responsibilities
- Cook high-quality dishes that follow the set recipes and standards, with steady quality, plating and portion sizes
- Help keep daily kitchen operations and prep running smoothly
- Uphold food safety, hygiene and sanitation rules and follow health and safety procedures every shift
- Assist with menu prep and bringing in seasonal menus
- Check food quality as you go and cut down on waste
- Stay quick and composed through busy services so deadlines are met
- Help rotate stock and manage inventory, and keep the kitchen clean, tidy and safe
- Work well with both the kitchen crew and front-of-house staff, and pitch in for catering, functions and special events when needed
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial kitchen experience, with time as a Chef de Partie or in a similar role
- Level 4 Cookery qualification or equivalent
- Hotel, function or high-volume kitchen experience is advantageous
- Experience in à la carte, fusion or Asian cuisine is an advantage
- A real passion for turning out high-quality food
- Excellent at communicating and working in a team
- Copes well with pressure when the kitchen gets fast-paced, and keeps a positive attitude with the flexibility to cover various shifts
- A good grasp of food safety and hygiene practices
- Willingness to relocate to Southland, New Zealand
