You will need a credible background, relevant qualifications and hands-on commercial kitchen time, all of which can be checked. In return you can contribute from your first shift, work across varied kitchen operations in a collaborative team, keep developing and possibly move up as the business grows. Applicants must already be based in Sydney, so this suits South African chefs who are already living there.
Key Responsibilities
- Cook and plate dishes to the set quality and presentation standards, following recipes, methods and procedures
- Finish daily prep and mise en place to suit each service
- Keep flavour, quality, portions and plating consistent
- Stay efficient when service is busy, adjusting to shifting needs and priorities
- Work hand in hand with the kitchen team for a smooth service, backing senior chefs and others when needed
- Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures
- Keep prep areas, equipment and benches clean and organised
- Check ingredient quality and store food correctly
- Help rotate stock, cut food waste and keep stock levels right
- Add to a positive, professional, team-first kitchen
Requirements & Eligibility
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification
- Minimum 1 year of relevant commercial kitchen experience
- Proven confidence working in a professional kitchen, with practical knowledge of food prep and commercial cooking techniques
- Qualifications and work history that can be verified
- Committed to food quality, hygiene and presentation
- Stays organised and productive under pressure
- Good communication and people skills
- Reliable attendance and a strong, professional work ethic
- Willing to work weekends and public holidays
- Must currently be based in Sydney
- Must meet the Australian immigration and sponsorship requirements that apply; sponsorship is available for the successful eligible candidate
