Butchery Assistant Manager

Moving beyond routine production work is what this role is about. A butchery in Birkenhead, Auckland is hiring a Butchery Assistant Manager: a seasoned Butcher with verifiable experience who will partner with the Butchery Manager to run the department.
Your job is to protect quality, back up the staff, look after customers and make sure the daily work hits the expected standard. The position is permanent and full-time, giving your experience proper recognition and room to grow as a leader.

Key Responsibilities
- Keep the butchery department running efficiently on every shift
- Apply proven butchery methods to cut, prep, break down and pack product, and keep its quality and presentation consistent
- Coach colleagues with everyday guidance and practical training
- Help supervise staff and coordinate the daily workload
- Assist with ordering, rotating stock and keeping wastage low
- Uphold strict standards for food safety, hygiene and safety at work, and check the department stays clean and tidy
- Give customers professional service and build good rapport with them
- Partner with the Butchery Manager on operational problems so productivity stays high
Requirements & Eligibility
- Solid experience in professional work as a Butcher
- Practical, demonstrated knowledge of meat preparation and of different cuts of meat, plus confident knife work and experience breaking down carcasses
- It is advantageous if you have previously been responsible for other staff
- Can back up your claimed work experience with evidence
- Accountable, dependable and professional in your approach, with good interpersonal and communication skills
- Effective team member who stays accurate and keeps quality high under pressure
- Strong grasp of food safety and safety-at-work requirements
- Free to work from Tuesday to Saturday
- Can satisfy whatever the relevant sponsorship pathway requires
