Boat Builder/Engineer/Alloy Fabricator

The builder needs a skilled Welder and Fabricator with a proven background in marine fabrication and aluminium welds, who can help construct and finish each hull from the drawings up.

Key Responsibilities
- Work out each job from the fabrication and engineering drawings
- MIG weld aluminium and weld other metals too
- Handle boat building tasks: fabricating, fitting, assembling, plus preparing, measuring, cutting and positioning materials
- Operate the workshop's machinery, including saws, shears, cranes and benders
- Use hand and power tools for engineering work, such as grinders, drills, levels and squares
- Check welds and fabricated parts for quality and accuracy, keeping welding and workmanship consistent
- Follow health and safety procedures in the workplace without exception
- Keep your work area, tools and gear clean and organised
- Work with supervisors and teammates to hit production needs, and suggest ways to improve workshop processes, productivity and results on each project
- Complete timesheets, material requests and the rest of the job paperwork
- Flag production, material or equipment concerns to the right supervisor
Requirements & Eligibility
- Proven, professional background in boat building, fabrication or welding
- Strong practical aluminium welding experience and demonstrated high-standard MIG welding
- Has worked with a range of metals and welding processes
- Reads engineering drawings accurately
- Practical knowledge of workshop equipment and fabrication machines, and experience with hand and power tools used in engineering
- Understands occupational health and safety requirements and safe ways of working in a workshop
- Strong eye for detail and accuracy, with consistent high-quality workmanship
- Good at solving problems and practical fabrication
- Works well alone and as part of a team
- Dependable and safety-conscious, committed to meeting production standards
- Willing to back up your skills and work history with evidence, and willing to work in Southland, New Zealand
