Bar and Restaurant Manager

Think of a Friday night in a busy Southland venue: a full bar, a packed dining room and a front-of-house crew looking to you for direction. A leading hospitality group in New Zealand is hiring a full-time Hospitality Manager to take charge of nights like that.
What they need is someone who has already managed front-of-house, who treats customers well and who can hold a whole venue together. Your days centre on supporting service, steering the floor staff and making sure guests get the same standard on every visit.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the venue each day, floor included, so guests are looked after smoothly; take on extra operational jobs when management asks
- Hold the venue to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and the Gambling Act 2003, plus its liquor licence conditions, house policies and health and safety duties
- Teach the team how to serve alcohol responsibly and deal with patrons
- Order and count liquor, control stock and file the reporting
- Draw up rosters for bar and floor shifts that use staff efficiently
- Keep every area spotless and looking its best, and see that equipment is serviced and in working order
- Check incident logs, venue records and the daily operating paperwork
- Come up with promotions that grow sales and get customers engaged
- Insist on correct cash handling, financial procedures and security steps
- Work with the managers above you towards business targets and profit
- Treat patrons to excellent service in a venue that stays safe for everyone who works or visits there
Requirements & Eligibility
- Minimum 2 years managing in hospitality or front of house, in a relevant role
- Either a relevant hospitality qualification or proven time in the industry
- Must hold a Duty Manager Certificate or be eligible to obtain one
- Solid hospitality operations and customer service background, including leading teams at a busy venue
- Experience with TAB and gaming/pokie machines is highly desirable
- Understands liquor licensing regulations and responsible service
- Free to work flexible hours such as weekends, late nights and public holidays, on full-time hours (30–40 hours per week)
- Clear communicator, natural leader and good problem solver
