European cars with complex mechanical and electrical problems are the bread and butter of this full-time role in a growing South Australian workshop. The business is hiring a Motor Mechanic – European Vehicle Specialist who likes getting to the bottom of a hard fault.
Your week will mix servicing, diagnostics, repairs and preventative maintenance, backed by modern diagnostic gear and manufacturer-specific information. South African mechanics should keep their trade test certificate handy, since trades are usually assessed again abroad.
Key Responsibilities
- Look after European vehicles from service to repair, chasing down hard-to-find mechanical and electrical faults
- Work on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering and suspension, fixing and maintaining them
- Plug in specialised scan tools and computerised diagnostic gear to test electrical and electronic systems
- Make sense of fault codes, wiring diagrams, technical manuals and manufacturer specs
- Pull apart, inspect and assess engines, transmissions and other parts
- Replace or repair components that are damaged, worn or faulty
- Do scheduled services and preventative maintenance, including oil, filter and fluid changes
- Handle brake jobs, engine tune-ups and general mechanical work
- Put systems and components back together once repaired
- Test repaired systems to confirm they run safely and correctly
- Take vehicles on road tests and do the final quality check
- Log your servicing, repair and diagnostic work accurately
- Work safely in the workshop and keep your standard of work high
Requirements & Eligibility
- An automotive trade qualification that is recognised, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years as a Motor Mechanic in relevant professional work, with proven hands-on time on European vehicles
- Sharp at diagnosing and fault-finding across mechanical and electrical systems with computerised equipment and scan tools
- Confident diagnosing and repairing faults on your own
- Time on BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, Volvo, Land Rover, Range Rover or similar European brands is highly regarded
- You can work from technical documents, wiring diagrams and manufacturer procedures
- Good English communication skills
- A current driver's licence
- Committed to working full-time in South Australia
- Must meet the applicable requirements to be considered for an employer-sponsored visa
